DJI Mini 2 se - all features you need to know

Hi, hope you are all well. A few days ago we got a brand new drone named 'DJI Mini 2 se'. Now I think you might be wondering what is that. It is a 'Mini 2' and 'Mini SE'. That's why this article is all about 'DJI Mini 2 se'.

This is all about what you need to know before buying it for yourself. I discussed all itself step by step and lastly, I have discussed the most important 'overall performance' taken by its field experience which can guide you to buy it or not.

In this article at first, I compare it with the previous versions. So read this article with patience to get a clear-cut idea about 'DJI Mini 2 se'.

Straight away you all probably noticed it looks remarkably similar to 'DJI Mini 2' as well as 'DJI Mini se' and that's because it's pretty much identical again to the face value we've seen.

This same chassis and the same body on multiple versions of the mini drone releases from DJI and this is no different here. There is no major difference here even the batteries can be interchangeable between the 'Mini 2' and 'Mini se'.

Very kind of similar design between the two previous versions. There are a few little differences here and a few reasons why you might want to get yourself the 'Mini 2 se'.

But I would imagine that by the looks of it. DJI might remove 'DJI Mini 2' from the market because when we look at the 'Mini 2' and the '3' for example there are a few similarities there and I feel like maybe removing the 'Mini 2' and having something like this (replaces both the 'Mini 2' and 'Mini SE' would maybe make more sense at a marketing point. Because they can go from the 2se to the 3 and the 3 pro because this guy is capable of 2.7K video.

It does not have the 4K video and that the another reason why I think maybe the 'Mini 2' will be removed at some point shortly as well as the 'Mini SE'.

I feel like this guy might replace those two drones.

There is nothing majorly going on here so we unclip this little system here and reveal the camera.

It is the same camera system that we got on the 'Mini se'. I said before it's capable of 2.7K video and it's also capable of 12 megapixels stills.

But the one big difference here with the 'Mini 2 se' which I find the name is a little confusing because it's like 'Mini 2' or it is a second version of the 'Mini se'.

It's such a weird one to me but regardless this is capable of capturing raw photos. But 'Mini se' was not capable of capturing raw photos and the 'Mini 2' was so. Also, you get 4x zoom from its camera.

Again this is a weird kind of middle ground between the previous two but it is capable of like I said 12 megapixel stills which is the standard same camera system as the mini SE. The 2.7K video capturing is not capable of taking 4K video but it's capable of capturing raw photos.

Now let's talk about its camera sensor. It's a '1/2.3 inch CMOS' sensor and as usual the three-axis of a gimbal. So I think there is nothing different here. You can get nothing insanely new offering from its camera.

But we get more shooting functions from this 'Mini 2 se' camera system. As like we get 'Panorama', we get 'AEB' and we also get four times digital zoom as well as 'Boomerang mode'.

So these functions were not in the previous 'Mini se'. So it individuating that there is a diversity in the camera system.

It might Another reason to get it for yourself is it's lightweight. It's under 250g which is too much easy to carry it. Besides, it can easily pass clouds for its lightweight. You can fly it in a lot more locations.

Sometimes many countries have restrictions or regulations regarded flying drones. It also lessens the governing regulations for its size. Despite its less weight it has no quality or design changes or lessen than the previous two versions.

So it is a lot of fun to fly for its size. You can fly it in a tighter gap and you can whip around different trees also because this guy is slightly faster than previous.

It's Battery 🔋 life

About its battery, according to the claim of DJI, you are getting 31 minutes of battery backup with 2250 mAh. The Same battery technology we got in the 'Mini 2' and 'Mini se' and they are also interchangeable.

But in conformity with field experience on average you can get 23 to 25 minutes battery backup.

It's the big calling card would be that 'The DJI Mini 2 SE' does not use the enhanced wi-fi. But the previous two versions used that technology. So there were issues of range and reliability. Sometimes it's dropped out and had cuts issues and also had interference problems.

But in 'DJI Mini 2 SE' there is a super update controller 🎮 named 'RC-N1' which uses an 'OCUSYNC-2' video transmission system with a range of 10 kilometers. So instead of 'enhanced wi-fi', you get the in-house OCUSYNC technology from DJI. It gives you a more reliable and stable connection than before.

DJI claims that you can get a connection range of 10 kilometers. But I think its battery can't instruct to go for 10 kilometers because of its battery backup. Again, it's the issue of coming back from there.

So, I confidently think this gonna be the best beginner drone for new drone users because you get the OCUSYNC-2 video transmission system.

Now come to its accessories, You will get the drone in the box with the controller, some necessary cables, and a user manual guide. But there is no individual propeller guard except two pairs of propellers. You can use those after it will crash.

'DJI Mini 2 se' obstacle avoidance

Now let's discuss drone key quality and this is 'Obstacle Avoidance'. I think guys it is slightly shocking that there is no obstacle avoidance system as we expect. It's just a beginner drone from DJI. No obstacle avoidance system or active track I found from it.

So, I again say that it's slightly different from the previous 'Mini se' and you can tell it is a refresher version of 'Mini se'. So there is nothing majorly exciting here in terms of obstacle avoidance as well as no exciting spiffy new features.

It's just a kind of reliable and consistent drone that we get from DJI.

It seems to me that the drone is only for a particular type of person who is a beginner.

About the wind test, we are getting a better wind rating than before. Its wind rating is 10.7 meters per second which is slightly more than the previous 'Mini se' and it was a 10.5 meter per second wind rating.

So it's going to handle any wind conditions smartly. The gimble itself is also capable one for any wind conditions.

So if you are interested in picking up the 'Mini 2 se' you can buy it from the D1 store's website and mention the 'Danstube. TV' YouTube channel before buying. DansTube.TV YouTube channel can help you to best deal with them to buy fly more combo kits and other accessories.

If you do deal with them as usual its mouthful price is 599$ for the drone with battery and controller.

If you want to get a fly more combo kit also then this price will 200$ and a total of 799$. So I think it's a relatively good price point to buy yourself.

But the DJI Mini 2 se price on Amazon like in the USA is around 339$ for this drone and including a fly more combo kit it's a total of 489$.

Overall performance

The performance of its flying is more than expected. It can fly smoothly in any condition. I can give it 98 out of 100 in flying performance.

A very stable gimble that I see. You can get proof of stability during video shooting. You can't get a shake from it. It is tested by experts on the shore. They can't get a shake or even less performance through heavy wind.

Now, let's talk about its controller. A very perfect and handy controller it is. All necessary port buttons are here. You can get a very good battery backup of 4 hours from it.

If you stop charging your phone from it, you will get 5 hours plus battery backup. You can use an Android phone or IOS with the controller.

Video footage taken by 'DJI Mini 2 se' is totally sharp in daylight conditions. However, in low light conditions, its footage can't be so sharp. But in proper daylight conditions, it can give satisfactory results.

You can record 2.7K video at 30 fps from 'DJI Mini 2 se'. But if you record 1080p video, you can do with 60 fps. But straight away I really miss the 4K video recording from it.

It has the quick shot option, which is really exciting and helpful for beginners. But there are no tracking features which I really miss. You have to track it manually.

It's an exciting feature for which I am really pleased that it's hover mode. It's too stable to stand in one place. I can't find any movement or something like that until there is heavy wind. If there is heavy wind it is not a problem because the gimble is stable.

Besides, returning to the home point remains among all other features. That means, if it runs out of charge during flying, it can return easily. So the possibility of loss is less.
