First Impressions – Unboxing & Build Quality

Premium Feel Right Out of the Box

The moment I unboxed the SanDisk Extreme PRO, I could tell this wasn’t just an ordinary flash drive. Unlike cheap plastic USB sticks, this one boasts a solid aluminum metal casing, giving it a premium feel. It has a slight weight to it, which reassures me that it’s built to last.

Compact Yet Sturdy

Despite packing 1TB of storage, it’s surprisingly compact. It’s about the same size as a regular flash drive but slightly thicker. The retractable USB connector is a nice touch, preventing dust and damage when not in use.

However, one small issue I noticed is that the retractable slider feels a bit stiff initially. With frequent use, though, it loosens up.

Real customer reviews from Amazon

Now I want to show you some real customer reviews from Amazon. After sufficient time using, they share their thoughts as review in Amazon.

Customer 1 said,

"This flash drive works really well and , unlike the off brand 1TB drives I've tried in the past, the full amount of storage is accessible. It's also (subjectively) pretty quick. Surprisingly (to me) the USB connector end gets a bit warm in operation. Not hot, just noticeably warm. Not a big deal to me and I'm Happy with the purchase and especially with the Prime day deal I got on it. It's perfect for backing up bunches of files and I will be getting a couple more the next time I see a good price break on them."

Customer 2 reviewed,

"The SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO USB 3.2 Solid State Flash Drive is an outstanding product. With transfer speeds of up to 420MB/s, it's incredibly fast, making it ideal for quickly moving large files. The 1TB capacity provides ample storage space, perfect for all my data storage needs. The durable aluminum metal casing adds a layer of protection, ensuring the drive is sturdy and reliable. Whether for work or personal use, this flash drive is an excellent investment. My only minor issue is that it can get a bit warm during heavy use, but that's expected with such high performance."

Customer 3 said,

"I used this to put some movies and music on. The drive was quick (after I plugged it into the correct USB port). Obviously the older USB ports, will not support the faster speed. The drive appears to be well built and should hold up well."

Performance – Is It Really an "SSD in a USB Stick"?

This is where things get interesting. SanDisk claims up to 420MB/s read and 380MB/s write speeds, which is on par with entry-level SSDs. But I wanted to see if actually delivers on those numbers.

Speed Test Results

I ran some speed tests using CrystalDiskMark and real-world file transfers, and here’s what I found:

Benchmark Results

Read Speed: 410–420MB/s (close to the advertised speed)

Write Speed: 350–370MB/s (slightly lower but still very fast)

Real-World Performance

I transferred a 10GB 4K video file from my laptop (USB 3.2 Gen 2 port) to the SanDisk Extreme PRO:

- Transfer Time: 'Under 30 seconds!'

- Compared to a traditional USB 3.0 drive (which took almost 5 minutes), this was a night-and-day difference.

I also tested booting a portable Windows installation from this drive, and SanDisc Extreme Pro performed just like an external SSD.

Who Is This Drive For?

This drive is perfect if you:

✅ Regularly transfer large files (e.g., 4K videos, high-res photos, game backups)

✅ Need a compact and fast storage solution without carrying an external SSD

✅ Want to run portable software or OS installations from a flash drive

✅ Are a content creator, videographer, or professional who values speed and reliability

However, if you only need a USB drive for basic tasks like documents and music, you might not need this much speed (or storage).

Security & Software Features of SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Solid State Flash Drive

SanDisk includes SecureAccess software, which lets you encrypt your files with 128-bit AES encryption. This is great if you’re storing sensitive documents. However, I personally prefer BitLocker (Windows) or VeraCrypt, as they offer stronger encryption.

Heat & Durability – Does It Get Hot?

Since this drive operates at SSD speeds, heat was one of my concerns.

After transferring over 100GB of files continuously, the drive did get warm but never uncomfortably hot. The aluminum casing helps dissipate heat well.
